Kush Karisma (born April 20, 1987 in Basel ; real name Fabian Pöpelt ) is a Swiss rapper from Basel.

biography

Kush came into contact with hip hop culture in 1999 at the age of eleven . At first he was mainly active as a break dancer. In addition, he began to write his first rap lyrics. In the following years he mainly concentrated on rap. So he met the beatboxer Headshock know, and jammed the first time with the former group vinyl Bros . The first studio recordings followed. Back then, Kush was still performing under the pseudonym Shizophrenic .

In 2003 Kush met the beat producer Contrast, at that time still L Jazira, with whom he formed the Duo Dunkelziffer from then on. In Contrast's home studio, complete tracks were created for the first time, most of which were also produced by Contrast. Various concerts, open mics and freestyle sessions followed.

In 2004, Kush made a name for himself when he published the title Basel - Dä Jam isch für Arsch , in which he expressed his displeasure at the fact that he was not allowed to perform at the Basel all-star rap concert in Basel, because Jam isch for you in the Basel barracks .

In 2006 he published the collaboration album Köpf wo anders tikke together with Chilz . The following year, when Abart's album Wäggselspil was released, the formation Köpf wo anders tikke ( KWAT for short ) was founded together with Chilz, Contrast, DJ Moe, Kid Bakabu, Rapreflex , MadCed, Manoo , Rime, TKB and Zehir . In October 2007, the album Nachtschicht by Mad Ced was released, which was recorded within two days. Production was mainly taken over by ND-Q.

In August 2008, Kush signed a contract with the Basel record label PW Records . After two crew albums with KWAT and a collaboration album with his producer Jakebeatz, Kush's debut album Karisma was finally released on February 4, 2011 . In addition to Jakebeatz, this was also produced by P. Moos and Mr. Fierce, producer of the Allschwil rap group Brandhärd . Guest contributions came from singer Baschi and the Zurich rapper Samurai , for example . A spit video was released for the songs Intro , Music and This and that . The album received very good reviews in reviews.

In addition to the CD, the album also contained the short film Stör Faktor by Manuel Wiedemann , in which Kush played the leading role (the film was produced by the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and has received several awards, including at the Locarno Film Festival , the Solothurn Film Festival and the Shnit Film Festival in Bern).

In August 2011, the newly formatted 12-person crew KWAT released the debut album entitled Dopamin . In February 2012, a Kush mix album followed, which was mixed by DMC champion DJ Steel. This work contains 26 songs and guest contributions from Switzerland, Germany and the USA.

In 2017, his album Bâlonce stayed in the Swiss charts for a week . The title track of the album, feat. Jae Prynse "lets ... the palm trees in the Alpine country sprout" and became "CH-Song of the Week" by Radio SRF Virus .
