The Kushiro Shitsugen National Park ( Japanese 釧 路 湿 原 国立 公園 , Kushiro Shitsugen Kokuritsu Kōen ) is a Japanese national park in the Hokkaidō region . The park, which opened on July 31, 1987, extends over the Kushiro moor ( Kushiro-shitsugen ) over an area of 28,788 ha. With IUCN Category IV, the park area is classified as a biotope and species protection area . The Japanese Ministry of Environment is responsible for the management of the national parks.
Flora and fauna
The post-glacial marshland of the national park is home to a multitude of animal and plant species. Due to the cold climate, the Kushiro Marshland is one of the few habitats for the Siberian angle -toothed newt, for example .
