Kwaku Ohene-Frempong
Kwaku Ohene-Frempong (* 1946 in Kukurantumi , Biakoye District , Volta Region ) is a former Ghanaian hurdler who specialized in the 110-meter distance .
In 1966 he enrolled at Yale University . In 1968 he turned down an offer to take part in the Olympic Games in Mexico City in order to concentrate on his studies.
On May 30, 1970, he set a national record in Philadelphia with 13.9 s, which lasted 26 years. In the same year he finished seventh at the British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh .
In 1970 he graduated in biology . He then graduated from the Yale School of Medicine and devoted himself to research into sickle cell anemia . From 1991 to 1998 he headed the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America.
Ohene-Frempong is Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania . In 1999 he was one of the first athletes to be inducted into the International Scholar-Athlete Hall of Fame .
