Kypros Nicolaides
Kypros Nicolaides (* 1953 in Paphos , Cyprus ) is a British gynecologist and obstetrician who is best known for his achievements in prenatal medicine .
Nicolaides studied medicine at King's College School of Medicine and Dentistry , London , and joined the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics under Stuart Campell and Charles Rodeck in 1980. There he did research on fetoscopy . After Charles Rodeck's departure, he became director of the Harris Birthright Research Center for Fetal Medicine , the UK's first fetal medicine department. He further developed the technique of chordocentesis and was the first to publish a scientific publication on the subject of endoscopic laser therapy for fetofetal transfusion syndrome . He also published numerous papers on the subject of ultrasound in prenatal medicine, he was the first to describe the lemon sign and the banana sign which occurs in spina bifida and he systematically examined the transparency of the neck .
