László Melis

László Melis (born August 14, 1953 in Budapest ; † February 12, 2018 ) was a Hungarian violinist and composer .

Melis studied violin at the Franz Liszt Music Academy . In 1978 he was one of the founding members of Gruppe 180 ( 180-as Csoport ), a contemporary music ensemble specializing in minimalist music . He composed five pieces for this group, all of which were recorded on record. He has also performed with musicians such as Louis Andriessen , Steve Reich and Terry Riley . After the breakup of Gruppe 180 in 1990, Melis turned more and more to composition. His works include two chamber operas, cantatas, orchestral songs and ballet music as well as numerous film, drama and radio music.
