The Låktatjåkko (or Låktatjåkko Stugan) is a hill station in the northern Swedish province of Norrbotten in the municipality of Kiruna . It is at an altitude of 1,228 meters, making it the highest mountain hut in Sweden.

General

From the beginning it served alpine tourism. It is used by mountain hikers in summer and by skiers, ski tourers and snowmobilers in winter. According to the operator, the hut had around 1,300 guests in 2015.

The mountain station has ten guest rooms with a total of 18 beds and a catering area. In the station there is a bar that is considered to be the highest bar in Sweden.

The hut is managed in the summer season from the end of June to the end of September and in the winter season from the end of February to the beginning of May.

The hut does not have a separate winter room. However, there is a small refuge next to the hut, which is open all year round.

history

The mountain station was built by the Swedish State Railways and opened in 1939; it was in their possession until 2011. Then the tourism company Lapland Resorts took over the mountain station. It does not belong to the Svenska Turistföreningen huts .

Approaches

Låktatjåkko can be reached from three directions.

The most popular approach starts in Björkliden in the east. From here, two well-marked summer hiking trails and a winter hiking trail lead about nine kilometers up to the hut. In Björkliden, the snowmobile slope up to the hut begins in winter.

Another path leads seven kilometers from the west south of the eponymous mountain to the hut.

From the south a little marked path (cairns) leads nine kilometers from the Karsevagge hut to the Låktatjåkko hut.
