Lüderitz Speed Challenge

The Lüderitz Speed Challenge (in German about Lüderitz Speed Competition ) is an annual speed competition in kite and windsurfing . This has been taking place in Lüderitz in the southwest of Namibia since 2007 . It is recognized by the World Sailing Speed Record Council (WSSRC) and the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) and is considered one of the most important and largest competitions of its kind worldwide.
Records
As part of the Lüderitz Speed Challenge (as of August 2015) twelve world records and 75 national Namibian records were broken. Kite surfers were the first to break the 50 knot mark as an average speed of over 500 m. The Speed World Ranking on the website of the Lüderitz Speed Challenge offers an overview of the world's fastest sailors - currently with the Australian Paul Larsen at the helm, who achieved an average speed of 55.32 knots (102 knots) on November 18, 2012 , 45 km / h) over a nautical mile, and on November 24 of the same year set world records for the fastest sail-powered watercraft with the Vestas Sailrocket 2 at 65.45 kn (121.12 km / h) over 500 m , but this was before the coast of Namibia and not on the channel of the Lüderitz Speed Challenge.
