Jakob Lindberg

Jakob Lindberg (born October 16, 1952 in Djursholm , Danderyd municipality ) is a Swedish lutenist .

Life

Lindberg learned guitar as a child and received lute lessons from Jörgen Rörby at the age of 14 . He began studying music at Stockholm University and moved to London to the Royal College of Music , where he studied Renaissance and Baroque lute with Diana Poulton . In 1979 he took over the professorship for lute from Poulton.

Lindberg owns one of the few playable lutes of the sixteenth century, an instrument by Sixtus Rauwolf from Augsburg, who was in a relationship with a daughter of the lutenist Melchior Neusidler . At the beginning of the eighteenth century, Leonhard Mausiel in Nuremberg expanded the lute to include eleven choirs.

Lindberg's discography includes more than seventy albums. Many of his recordings were pioneering work. He was the first to present a complete recording of John Dowland's lute works , and produced recordings with Scottish lute and Italian chitarrone repertoire. Many of his recordings were released by the Swedish label BIS Records .

Lindberg gives solo concerts, but also appears (mostly with the theorbo for the basso continuo ) in ensemble and consort as well as accompanying musician for singers such as Emma Kirkby or Anne Sofie von Otter . He also worked as a conductor and chitarrone player in performances of baroque operas such as Euridice and Dido and Aeneas .
