L'Avant-Garde ( German  Die Vorhut ) was a Swiss anarchist newspaper, which was published by Paul Brousse as organ of the Jura Federation and the French sections of the International Workers' Association in 1877 and 1878 and replaced the Bulletin de la Fédération jurassienne .

The first issue came out on June 2, 1877 in Bern with the addition Organe de la Fédération française de l'Association internationale des Travailleurs . The paper appeared every two weeks and contained contributions by Paul Brousse , Jean-Louis Pindy , Charles Alerini, Jules Montels and François Dumartheray. Imports into France were banned by the French government, which the editorial team tried to circumvent by sending sealed items to contacts within France. The last edition of the Bulletin de la Fédération jurassienne recommended the avant-garde to readers . The editorial staff of the Avant-Garde took over from the Bulletin , but had only 400 subscribers in 1878.

The newspaper was sharply attacked in public because it sympathized with the assassins Max Hödel , Karl Eduard Nobiling and Giovanni Passannante . At the end of 1878, the Federal Council banned the avant-garde on the grounds that the publication of the newspaper would endanger Switzerland's relations with other countries. The last edition appeared on December 2, 1878. In 1879 the avant-garde was replaced by the newspaper Le Révolté .
