L'Histoire silencieuse des Sourds

L'Histoire silencieuse des Sourds ( French The Silent History of the Deaf ) is the first exhibition on the history of the deaf and French Sign Language , which will take place from June 19, 2019 to October 6, 2019 at the Panthéon in Paris . It is an introduction to the history of the deaf with their times of progress in education and integration, their great figures of educated and committed deaf people, like Johanna Stewart or the architect Étienne de Fay , who founded the first deaf association in Paris in 1836 by Ferdinand Berthier [and] their times of regression with the rise of eugenics at the end of the 19th and 20th centuries .

The Center des monuments nationaux presents the exhibition in the Panthéon in collaboration with the Institut national de jeunes sourds , the International Visual Theater and the Amis de l ' abbé de L'Épée . The scientific director is Yann Cantin, Doctor of History at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) and Associate Professor at the University of Paris VIII Vincennes - Saint-Denis .
