from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The L'Inconnue-Polka is a polka- French by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 182). The work was first performed on August 14, 1856 in Pavlovsk , Russia.

Remarks

The polka was created during Johann Strauss' first trip to Russia in the summer of 1856. The Russian railway company invited him there. His guest performances took place mainly in Pavlosk, a city on an important railway line to and from St. Petersburg . The idea of the company was to encourage people from this city to attend concerts through the concerts. Of course, they had to use the train to do so. According to some Strauss experts, the title name L'Iconnue (The Unknown) is derived from the many young female concert guests, which may have included an unknown beauty in which the composer could have been more interested. How much truth is behind this statement remains open. The title name could also just be a dedication to an unknown lady. Possibly the original title of the work was Pavlosk Polka .

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 2 minutes and 58 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
