Remarks

The polka was possibly composed by Johann Strauss during his trip to Russia, but was not performed there. The first performance took place during a carnival ball in January 1857. According to some Strauss experts, the title name can be interpreted based on Demi-Monde (half-world), for example, with half-sisters of happiness . The premiere was a great success. The polka was chosen as the favorite piece of the concert evening and stood out from all waltzes and other compositions played there. The work is still counted among the masterpieces of Johann Strauss today .

The playing time on the CD listed under itemization is 3 minutes and 55 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
