L'Instant Durable is a French cardboard model maker - publisher and distributor based in Clermont-Ferrand , France . The publishing house was founded in 1983 by Alain de Bussac . The publisher is best known for its cardboard model building sheets of important French monuments.

history

The publishing house came into being thanks to a meeting between Alain de Bussac and Paul De Boever, two colleagues from the graphic arts industry. The publisher's production is based in part on the tradition of the architectural modeling arches offered by the Imagerie d 'Épinal in the 19th century . The concept of the model sheet in book form ( livre-maquette ) is new : the cut-out sheets are bound together with a historical text on the respective monument, translated into several languages, in a brochure. Authors are highly qualified architects and artists who work with the most modern reproduction techniques. In addition, all buildings are reproduced on a uniform scale (usually 1: 250, in some cases 1: 500) so that they can be compared with one another.

The first title to appear in the Architecture et Modélisme Collection in 1983 was the Loire Castle Chenonceau (architects: P. De Boever and Bernard Deubelbeiss, text: A. de Bussac).

From 1984 onwards, several model building sheets appeared in the livre-maquette series every year after two years of preparation. The publishing house subsequently signed new architects: Thierry Hatot, Jean-Marie Lemaire, Jean-Tristan Roquebert, as well as new graphic artists and illustrators: Anne-Marie Piaulet, Pierre Guérin, Hughes Renier, Jacques Martin (inventor of the cartoon character Alix ).

In 1986 a new collection was launched: famous buildings from all over the world (mainly from Europe) and historical figures appear as cut-out postcards. In the 2009 catalog, the series includes more than 150 motifs. At the same time, a number of pre-cut cards are placed on the table. In 1991, in addition to architectural models, cut-out sheets on various topics were included in the program as part of the new Grand Angle collection .

In 1998 the Compas collection was added, a series of books on art and architecture in the form of a mini-encyclopedia with the participation of specialists such as François Taillandier ( Grand Prix du Roman de l'Académie française), Thierry Hatot (winner of the Salon du Livre d'Architecture de Briey ), Bénédicte Tézenas du Montcel , Alain Berghmans and Bernard Deubelbeiss .

In 2000 the publishing house took over the sole distribution of the éditions Paleo , a specialist publisher for the publication of reference texts on the history of the 20th century in their complete version.
