L-3 (Russian: Л-3) was the name of a Soviet submarine of the Leninez class in World War II.

The boat was laid down on September 6, 1929 at the Baltic shipyard in Leningrad . The launch took place on July 8, 1931. On November 5, 1933 L-3 was put into service with the Baltic Fleet .

L-3 sank the German freighter Goya on April 16, 1945 , which was used as a refugee transporter. It is estimated that around 7,000 people, presumably mostly women, children and older men, died in the Baltic Sea , which is only three degrees cold . The submarine was waiting for the Goya and fired two torpedoes at the refugee ship.

The commander of L-3 , the Soviet captain Wladimir Konstantinowitsch Konovalov , was honored with the award Hero of the Soviet Union for the sinking .

L-3 was decommissioned on August 17, 1953 . The tower of the boat is exhibited as a monument in Moscow .
