L3S

The L3S is a research center founded in 2001 for basic research and application-oriented research on future-oriented methods and technologies in the areas of knowledge , information and learning, based in Hanover . The L3S serves as a cooperation center for interdisciplinary and cross-institutional projects in the field of web science , with members of Leibniz University Hannover , TU Braunschweig and other universities.

The L3S researches methods and technologies that enable intelligent and seamless access to information via the web. The total research volume is over six million euros per year, with a large number of projects in the areas of Intelligent Access to Information , Next Generation Internet , E-Science and Web Governance .

The L3S is led by a board of directors consisting of Wolfgang Nejdl (LUH Hannover), Wolf-Tilo Balke (TU Braunschweig) and Bodo Rosenhahn (LUH Hannover).

Awards

L3S researchers received the “Best Paper Award” in 2005 for their contribution “DL meets P2P - Distributed Document Retrieval based on Classification and Content”.
