The Königssteig (Romanian Pasul Craiului , Hungarian Király-hágó ) is a 582 m high pass in the western Romanian Carpathians , over which the road leads from Oradea to Huedin and on to Cluj-Napoca . It is located between the towns of Cornițel and Bucea north of the Rapid Screech River . This breaks through the Apuseni Mountains and forms a narrow valley through which no road can be led without major technical effort, even if the Oradea – Cluj-Napoca railway, opened in 1870, runs here. The road, on the other hand, leaves the Valley of the Rapid Screeches at Topa de Criș , climbs in the valley of the Borod stream to the top of the pass and from there falls steeply to Bucea. From there it leads back along the Schnellen Kreisch.
Within Hungary, Transylvania was known as “Beyond the King's Path” (Hungarian Királyhágóntúl ), while Hungary was called “This Side of the King's Path” ( Királyhágómellék ). Today the pass is part of the border between Bihor and Cluj counties . Europastraße 60 runs over it .
