LLNN is a Danish post-metal band founded in 2014 .

history

LLNN was founded by Christian Bonnesen, Ketil and Rasmus G. Sejersen in Copenhagen after the end of The Psyke Project . The goal set by the members themselves was to continue the sound created with the previous band, in which Bonnesen and Rasmus G. Sejersen were involved. The music should be supplemented and further developed by the sound of the synthesizer added by Ketil G. Sejersen. The first recordings were designed as a trio and were loosely based on some riffs written by Bonnesen , which were only arranged in the studio by the band to the songs of the EP Marks . Bonnesen describes the recordings as a fundamental learning process, which should form the basis for the group's further releases and define the further sound of the band. The EP was released in limited numbers on the Mexican independent label Noxo and received little but positive feedback.

Together with Grim Van Doom , the band did a short tour in autumn 2014, after which a limited split EP of the tour members was released in December of the same year. With the album debut Loss , which was released in summer 2015, the group then achieved their international breakthrough. The album, which was later released as a download via Pelagic Records , Noxo and Third-I-Rex , received particular praise from European metal and hardcore media. Negative criticism occurred only sporadically and was occasionally put into perspective in the course of an express ignorance of the genre presented and its main representatives.

In the years after LLNN released Loss , the band toured Europe and performed at prestigious events such as the Roadburn Festival . After a split EP, which contained the recordings of Marks- EP and this time was released together with Wovoka via Pelagic Records, the second studio album was released in 2018 with Deads . The album, which was also released via Pelagic Records, again received largely positive international reception. Rasmus Furbo was first listed on Deads as the group's permanent bassist.

style

The music presented by LLNN is mostly attributed to post-metal. For a better localization, comparisons with genre representatives such as Amenra , Neurosis , Celeste , Cult of Luna and Old Man Gloom are tried in reviews . Bonnesen also names the film music pieces composed by John Carpenter as a significant influence on the electronic components and the atmospheric orientation of the music by LLNN.

This orientation is often taken up in reviews. Sometimes the music is referred to as a "film soundtrack with melodious screams". In particular, the use of the synthesizer is referred to as “retro-futuristic synthesizer carpets”, which are reminiscent of film and computer game music. In addition to the use of synthesizers highlighted in many reviews, the music of slow, driving rhythms , deep guitars and guttural roaring vocals is attested to have a "cinematic atmosphere".
