LM Wind Power (formerly LM Glasfiber ), based in Kolding (Denmark), is a major rotor blade manufacturer for wind turbines .
history
The 13 production sites are located in Denmark, India, Spain, China, Poland, Brazil and the USA, among others. The group also produces hydraulic components through its subsidiary Svendborg Brakes .
The company was originally founded in 1940 as a furniture factory in Lunderskov under the name Lunderskov Møbelfabrik . Products made of glass-reinforced plastic have been manufactured since the early 1950s . As a result, the company's name was changed to LM Glasfiber in 1952 . In 1978 the first rotor blades were manufactured. In 1991 the company entered the field of offshore wind energy with the delivery of the rotor blades for the wind farm in Vindeby . From 2001, the company was owned by the private equity -Investors Doughty Hanson & Co . In 2009 the company merged with Svendborg Brakes , a hydraulic component manufacturer acquired by Doughty Hanson in 2008. In April 2010 the name was changed to LM Wind Power.
In October 2016, General Electric acquired the company for 1.5 billion euros. The company is to remain operationally independent and continue to supply rotor blades for other wind turbine manufacturers.
