The LNG Lake Constance ferry is a double-ended ferry that is manufactured by the Pella Sietas shipyard in Hamburg .

The LNG ferry will look like the Lodi , the high ventilation mast of the new LNG ferry serves to distinguish it

description

In an EU-wide award procedure, the LNG ferry for more than 60 cars and 700 passengers, which is to run between Konstanz and Meersburg, was tendered. The client is Stadtwerke Konstanz, which operates the Konstanz-Meersburg ferry line. Bureau Veritas was chosen as the classification society , which is responsible for the technical acceptance.

Construction in Hamburg

The new ship is outside the largely put into service in 2010 Lodi same and how the Lodi can transport around 60 cars and 700 passengers. In contrast to the Lodi , it is operated with liquefied natural gas (LNG) instead of diesel fuel. From 2020 onwards, it will run in shuttle traffic between Konstanz and Meersburg and, with a construction cost of 17.7 million euros, is the largest and most expensive ferry on Lake Constance.

Final assembly in Constance

The ship will be prefabricated in 17 sections from 560 tons of steel with dimensions of 13.5 meters by 4.5 meters in Hamburg. These will then be transported in 17 transports from the end of October 2019 by water and road to the Austrian town of Fußach on Lake Constance for the assembly of the hull and interior work, the final completion will take place in the Staad ferry port in Constance.

Two 8-cylinder Series 4000 gas engines from MTU, each with an output of 746 kilowatts, are installed for propulsion. The MTU machines transfer their power to two Voith Schneider propellers. The LNG tank is located in a separate, hermetically sealed room that is only accessible through a gas-tight pressure lock. All gas lines are double-walled and have integrated gas sniffers. If leaks occur, the gas flows outwards via a high ventilation tower.
