The La Angostura dam is located on the Río Grijalva in the state of Chiapas in Mexico . She is also known as Dr. Belisario Domínguez known.

The dam is located 53 km southeast of Tuxtla Gutiérrez near Venustiano Carranza in a narrow valley. It is a 146 m high rubble dam and was completed in 1974 by the Comision Federal de Electricidad. In a hydropower plant , five turbines and generators of 180 MW each generate a total electrical output of 900 MW.

The reservoir is one of the largest on earth and the largest in Mexico. In addition to the Grijalva, there are several other tributaries, including: Cuxtepeques, Socoltenango, Aguacate, Morelia, Puerta.

There are four hydropower plants on Grijalva: in addition to La Angostura, these are Ingeniero Manuel Moreno Torres (Chicoasén), Nezahualcóyotl (Malpaso) and General Angel Albino Corzo ( Peñitas ).

There are other dams called "La Angostura" in Mexico, Costa Rica and the USA .
