The Manuel M. Torres Dam ( Presa Manuel M. Torres in Spanish , also called Presa Chicoasén ) dams a large reservoir in Mexico . The dam is located 18 km north of Tuxtla Gutiérrez in Chiapas on the Río Grijalva , the largest river in Chiapas, and is named after the engineer Manuel Moreno Torres, who was General Manager of the CFE power station company from 1959 to 1964 during the presidency of Adolfo López Mateos .

The dam is used to generate electricity; the hydropower plant has an output of 1500  MW . The 261 m high dam was built from loose earth material. It is one of the ten highest dams in the world. The storage capacity of the dam is around 1.6 billion cubic meters.
