Madame Féron , called La Belle Ferronière , (* 1500 ; † around 1530 or 1540) was the mistress of the French King Franz I.

Life

Madame Féron was the daughter of the lawyer Jean Féron and married a Paris lawyer. She served as a lady-in-waiting for Queen Claude de France at the French court . Her beauty aroused the interest of the king and he took her as his mistress. Her jealous husband decided to take gruesome revenge on Francis I by contracting syphilis in a brothel . The French king contracted the venereal disease through his wife and became sterile as a result.

Worth mentioning

The Ferronière jewelry set is said to be named after Madame Féron. The headdress consisted of an ornate hoop, which was set on the upper forehead with a special gemstone or with a pearl in the shape of a teardrop.
