The Lady of Saint-Sernin called on 3300-2200 v. The statue menhir , dated 107 cm in the 4th century BC, comes from Saint-Sernin-sur-Rance in the county of Rouergue and is now in the Musée Fenaille in Rodez in the Aveyron department in France with other statue menhirs . The statue menhirs discovered in the Rouergue are sculptures made of sandstone , the shape of which is reminiscent of menhirs , but which have been shaped on all sides.

The Lady of Saint-Sernin wears a wide cloak with heavy, parallel folds. The waist is marked with a belt. The arms are crossed in front of the chest. The facial features are shown simplified. The eyes and nose are indicated, as are tattoos in the form of parallel lines on the cheeks.

The group of statue menhirs of the Rouergue mostly show the costume and accessories of men. They carry weapons and a harness over their chest that is held in place by a strap that connects the belt. A triangular device with a ring is suspended from it. Since this cannot be determined, archaeologists have given it the name "object". Female figures have breasts, multi-row necklaces, and hair that is worn in a ponytail.

The discovery of the statue of Saint-Sernin marked the beginning of the study of this type of monument . The statues discovered in the Rouergue represent a large number of groups.

The menhirs are the oldest monumental statues known in western Europe . The figures from the Upper Paleolithic rarely reach a height of 30 cm. At the end of the Neolithic , humans initially represented almost real and sometimes oversized figures, the meaning of which, however, is still open.
