Seedling of 'Madame Falcot'?

List of rose varieties

The La France rose variety was discovered and introduced in France in 1867 by Jean-Baptiste Guillot (1803-1882). The rose is famous and has long been known as the first hybrid tea . In the history of rose breeding, it marks the turning point between old roses and modern roses. Since the variety was not specifically bred, one can only speculate about its origin. Possibly it is a cross of the yellow tea rose 'Madame Falcot' (Guillot 1858) with a remontant rose .

'La France' has dense, somewhat confused flowers with a strong Damascus scent. The color is a silvery shimmering pink, with a slightly darker outside. The buds are elongated and open into large flowers with a high-rise shape typical of hybrid tea and a diameter of 9 cm. They grow individually or in small groups and appear by autumn. The long flower stalks are a bit weak, so they often hang down.

The variety is profuse, is 60 to 150 cm high and 90 cm wide, and has medium green foliage. Although 'La France' is somewhat prone to fungal diseases, it is still popular today as a collector rose. In good locations and with sufficient care, it is suitable for planting as a floribunda rose, in a greenhouse or in a tub.
