La Pierre Plantée by Lussan
The menhir La Pierre Plantée from Lussan (also menhir de la Lèque or Occitan "la Leca" - ( German "the stone" ) - called), which stands in the garrigue near the hamlet of La Léque near Lussan , is 5.6 m the highest menhir in the Gard department in southern France . The Occitan language has ancient Celtic terms in its vocabulary. “Leca” comes from the Gallic “Lech” (as in “cromlech”). The "Pierre Plantée" ( German for "planted stone" ) dates from the Bronze Age and has an estimated weight of 8.5 tons and a recess in the lower area that reminds of the attempt to destroy the stone. The menhir has been protected as a historical monument since 1910 .
