La Poeze and La Poeze d'Harambure

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

La Poeze is a French nobility from the Duchy of Anjou , which has countless mentions from 950 in the various "cartulaires" of the Saint Aubin, Ronceray and Saint Serge monasteries. At La Poueze, not far from Angers , the remains of the medieval La Poëze castle can be seen. The uninterrupted line of tribes has been proven to be a knightly noble family since 1280. Due to the royal ordinance of September 17, 1817, the oldest branch of the family is supposed to continue the tradition of the Harambure family. La Poeze family coat of arms. Count's crown. history

In the Middle Ages, the dynasty had its seat in the north and south of the Loire in the Duchy of Anjou. His regional power is particularly evidenced by Bouchard de La Poëze and his son Gaudin de La Poëze. In 1085 he sold his possessions of Brain to the monastery of Saint Serge for the incredible amount of 1,000 Sols at that time, which was confirmed by the Pope in 1159. Until 1218 the family was also in Becon, today Becon les Granits, and was often referred to as "Principus Beconus" in the files. After that, the family split into several branches. The La Bretesche branch, including the Jousseau Margraves de La Bretesche, the now extinct branches La Poëze du Marais, La Poëze de La Jonchère and La Poëze de Montjauger, as well as the still existing branch La Poëze de La Colaissière. Later, the family took part in the fate of Anjou, especially the Hundred Years War , and finally settled in La Colaissiere castle south of Nantes in 1521 under Francois de La Poëze, colonel in the Breton armed forces of the Duke of Penthièvre.

For three generations, property and rights lawsuits were held between members of the family. She took part in the wars of religion, but stayed in the Duchy of Anjou and had to regularly prove her nobility for each generation.

The revolution

During the revolution, many members of the family were imprisoned and murdered. The goods were confiscated. Some were able to flee and joined the Armée der Emigrés, which was partly financed by Austria. After the revolution they got their possessions back in a disastrous state. All today's descendants come from the marriage of René Count de La Poëze and Ambroisine des Portes de Saint Père.

La Poeze d'Harambure

The oldest branch of the family took part in the defense of papal territory in Italy against Garibaldi and the King of Savoy, but died out. The younger line comes from the marriage between René Count de La Poëze and Virginie d'Harambure, which had to fulfill the condition to continue to use the name and margrave title Harambure. This was the result of the royal ordinance of September 17, 1817. Since then, the oldest branch of the La Poëze family has been called Harambure, whose head of the line is the Margrave Harambure.

La Poeze and Lourdes

The younger line received all possessions in western France, La Colaissière in Anjou, La Rabatelière and Saint Hermine in the Vendée as well as Thevalles in Mayenne, and continued the branch of the Counts de La Poëze through an intra-family marriage La Poëze / La Poëze . Staoueli de La Poëze, nee La Rochelambert, became lady-in-waiting to Empress Eugenie , and was due to her influence at the court at the origin of the Massabielle grotto in Lourdes, which Napoleon III. was supported. The family has been committed to Lourdes for several generations. For example, Goslen Count de La Poëze was President des Brancardiers de Lourdes for decades.

In Austria

Today the political or military functions are being replaced by economic activities. The family is scattered all over Europe. One branch is established at Artstetten Castle in Austria due to the wedding of Count Romée de La Poëze d'Harambure and Princess Anna von Hohenberg .

Coat of arms, saying and title

As usual for very old families in France, the coats of arms are particularly simple. Three black volumes on a silver plate with a count's crown. The oldest branch bears the Harambure coat of arms and the margrave's crown. Slogans are "Auxilium ab Alto" (help to the highest) and "Faventa Numeris" (it depends on us alone)

The margrave title is continued by the eldest of the oldest family branch La Poeze d´Harambure. As usual in France, the title of count is only to be worn with the first name. They are subject to the rules of the so-called courtesy titles, a French peculiarity that were also officially used by the government at the court at the “Honors de la Cour” and are recognized and used as such in today's aristocratic society ANF.
