La Renga 1992

La Renga is a hard rock band founded in 1987 in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires .

Band history

The first live performances took place in 1988 in the greater Buenos Aires area. As early as 1989, the group recorded the pieces that came on the market in 1991 as Esquivando Charcos, initially as cassettes. It wasn't until 1998 that the album was also released on CD. The production was completely independent, without the support of a record company; the band members themselves and their friends took over the distribution.

In 1993 the band produced the second album - Adónde Me Lleva La Vida - again without the support of a record company. However, she was now so well known through appearances at various local and regional festivals that self-distribution could no longer meet demand. The deal with Polygram , which the band then made, guaranteed them absolute artistic freedom, the record company only took care of the production and distribution of the CDs. In 1994 the band succeeded for the first time in filling the Estadio Obras Sanitarias , the basketball stadium of Club Atlético Obras Sanitarias de la Nación , the temple of the local rock music scene with around 5,000 seats. The band's first live album, Bailando en una pata , came out of the Obras performance, and a DVD was released a year later.

With the help of ex- sumo member and singer of the Divididos group , Ricardo Mollo , La Renga recorded the third studio album Despedazado Por Mil Partes in 1996 . With the accompanying live performances, they manage to fill the Obras four times in a row and also celebrate their first successes abroad. In 1997, the band toured accordingly in Mexico and the United States .

In October 1997 the band played together with other local rock greats in front of 20,000 people in the FerroCarril Oeste stadium in a show for the benefit of the Madres de Plaza de Mayo , which existed for 20 years at that time. At the end of the same year, La Renga filled the stadium on their own.

In the course of 1998 the band toured mainly Argentina and gained a lot of new audiences. Also, Uruguay and Spain were on the tour schedule - after the band took a break to hone the next album. This album, which was actually released without a name and which the band calls "the one with the star" because of the cover, was released in September 1998 and reached platinum status within a week. With two appearances in the stadium of the Atlanta football club, the band reached 48,000 spectators. A tour with 22 appearances through the Argentine provinces followed until September 1999. Two more impressive appearances in Buenos Aires in the stadium of the CA Huracán club closed the tour with a look back at the previous ten years.

In 2000 the band released La Esquina del Infinito and toured again extensively through Argentina, but also performed in Montevideo .

In May 2001, the Rengos returned to the stadium in Huracán to record the concert and bring it to stores as a double album under the title Insoportablemente Vivo that year. The concert was also released as a film in small editions in selected cinemas all over the country, years later (2004) also on DVD. To celebrate the release of the live CD, the band returned to the location of their first major hits, the Obras , in September and filled the stadium over four evenings.

During the worst economic crisis in decades in 2002, the band played in front of 55,000 spectators at CA River Plate Stadium . The audience received the EP Documento Único with the songs "Dementes en el espacio", "Hielasangre" and "Detonador de sueños" with their ticket . This last title was also given to the next studio album, which was released in late 2003. Both the EP and the studio album were recorded entirely in the band's rehearsal room, a trademark ever since. For the first time, the tour kicked off not in Buenos Aires, but in Córdoba . However, a concert in front of 73,000 fans at River Plate Stadium in April 2004 was the highlight. In between, however, the band returned to the stadium in Huracán to record the second live DVD En el ojo del Huracán . The title "In the eye of the hurricane" alludes to the location of the stage in the middle of the stadium.

The band released their first studio album in three years in 2006 with the title TruenoTierra (DonnerErde). The start of the tour in Mar del Plata was accordingly marked by a terrible downpour that turned the Mundialista stadium into a field of mud.
