Signpost to La Rivière

La Rivière consists of the districts of Le Ouaki, Bois-Nèfle, Le Ruisseau, Petit-Serré, Le Tapage, Le Gol-les-Hauts, Les Canots and Les Makes. On the road to Cilaos is the more remote settlement of Furcy, named in honor of the slave of the same name who had legally fought his status as a slave in 1817.

La Rivière is best known for its carpentry and trimming trade . Every year in August the Salon Expo-Bois takes place here, a fair where the island's furniture manufacturers present their products.
