Crosscut Canal is a canal structure in Maricopa County in the US state of Arizona . It was built on the southern outskirts of the city of Phoenix, Arizona .

history

The first Crosscut Canal was built by the US pioneers in 1888 to divert additional irrigation water from the Arizona Canal to the Grand Canal if necessary . It was sold to the federal government in 1906 for $ 15,730.

Today's Crosscut Canal was built between 1912 and 1913. It was built by the construction company Grant Brothers Construction Company and serves the same purpose. The southern end is now in a park area, since the Crosscut Canal often silts up, this section is apparently no longer maintained for cost reasons. The now dried-out canal bed to the south still serves as a flood protection measure; appropriate dams and flood bridges have been prepared in the relevant industrial area in order to be able to divert the sporadic floods.
