La Villette is a district of Lyon in the 3rd arrondissement and lies between la Part-Dieu , Bellecombe , Dauphiné / Sans-Souci and the two districts of La Ferrandière and Les Maisons-Neuves, which are in the urban area of Villeurbanne .
description
Not much remains of the industry that once shaped the district: the municipal building yard ( French bâtiment de travaux publics ) on Rue Baraban, the Roux foundry, the Pionchon gear factory and the Delle factory on the border with Villeurbanne, Societe des Papiers Keller-Dorian and Tissus Keller-Dorian in the streets de l'Espérance and Antoine Charial (also L'Avenir), the building cooperative opposite the regional health insurance company ( French Caisse régionale d'Assurance Maladie ).
The factories were replaced by numerous residential buildings. The workshops of the craftsmen also had to give way; they were not worth preserving and mostly came from the beginning of the 19th century. The vast area of the Petites Soeurs des Pauvres (located between the streets Maurice Flandin, Antoine Charial and the avenue George Pompidou) became a suburb. La Villette street, which borders the Part-Dieu district, has been completely redesigned and enlarged. Some of the new and modern high-rise buildings have been integrated into Part-Dieu.
The neighborhood has an interesting church on the corner of Baraban and Antoine Charial streets, Église du Sacré-Coeur. Although it was never completed due to lack of money (the construction time is between wars (1922-1934)), a beautiful ensemble of natural and artificial stones was created, surrounded by a small park, which was created due to the abandoned work.
