Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil
Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil ( LNEC ; German National Research Center for Civil Engineering ) is a state-owned Portuguese institution with legal personality specializing in research and development in the field of building construction and civil engineering .
LNEC reports to the Portuguese Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications ( Ministério das Obras Públicas, Transportes e Comunicações ). LNEC was founded on November 19, 1946. The LNEC campus covers a total area of around 22 hectares and is located two kilometers south of Lisbon-Portela Airport . The contiguous complex with a laboratory for materials testing is adjacent to Avenida do Brasil to the south, where the main entrance and access to the main parking lot are located.
One of the main tasks of the LNEC is scientific and technical advice to support the construction industry in the construction of roads, airports, railways and bridges. LNEC currently employs 556 people, around 46% of whom have a university degree or equivalent. 27% of the employees work in the field of scientific research. Carlos Pina is the head of the LNEC.
Library
The LNEC has its own library with around 145,000 volumes, of which around 30,000 relate to standards and building regulations. Around 2,400 journal titles are available in exchange with comparable institutions around the world. The scientific and technical library is open to the public.

As a result of the wide range of activities in science and technology, LNEC published around 1124 publications in 2011.

The main building of the LNEC has been registered since December 24, 2012 in the "List of Monumento de Interest Público".
