Lake Ihotry is 50 m above sea level on Madagascar's west coast, about 37 km from the Indian Ocean . It is a heart-shaped lake with no outflow and surrounded by dry forest. The jade green color of the water can be seen from space .
The most common plant species in the area is the liana . The lake is also the breeding ground for the plover .
