The Lac de Naussac is a dam on the river Allier in the French region of Languedoc-Roussillon . It is located in the Cevennes between Mende and Le Puy-en-Velay . The eponymous village of Naussac is located directly south of the lake. The reservoir is primarily used to keep the Loire flowing, so that sufficient cooling water is available for the nuclear power plants located there even in summer. For this purpose, it is also supplied with water that originally would not have flowed off via the Allier. The lake is not in the actual course of the Allier, but parallel to it. Today it is also a popular recreational area.
