The administrator of the city and chronicler of Chile Pedro Mariño de Lobera took care of the reconstruction and help for the victims.
After the huge earthquake of May 22, 1960 , huge masses of water and mud fell from the lake over the Río San Pedro towards Valdivia and caused devastating damage on the way.
