The Lago di Corbara is an artificial lake in the province of Terni in Umbria region in Italy .
Surname
The name Corbara has been in use for centuries and is derived from the Latin : corvus for " raven ". The name of the place Corbara on the shore of the lake was also eponymous for the reservoir. Lago stands for Italian " lake ".
history
Construction of the reservoir began in 1959. It was completed in 1963.
Data
The Tiber absorbs almost all of the region's waters on its way through Umbria. The Lago di Corbara is mainly fed by the Tiber and has a catchment area of about 6075 km² in relation to the reservoir. The plant is operated by Enel SpA , an Italian energy company based in Rome . The barrier structure is a gravity dam with a length of 640 m and a maximum height of 52 m. The reservoir has a maximum capacity of 190,000,000 m³ and of this 135,000,000 m³ can be used for energy generation. 38 turbines are installed and a maximum of 531 MW can be converted into electrical energy at the same time.
The dam also serves to regulate the discharge of water to the Tiber in the lower reaches of z. B. Prevent flooding.

The lake and the surrounding area are used intensively for tourism. Sports activities include B. Canyoning , sport fishing , canoeing / kayaking , orienteering , horse trekking.
