Lagoa Azul

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lagoa Azul is a lagoon in the north of the Brazilian island of Ilha Grande in the state of Rio de Janeiro . It is located directly in the village of Freguesia de Santana . The name "Lagoa Azul" means "Blue Lagoon" in German. The Lagoa Azul is formed by the Ilha dos Macacos, the Ilha Redonda and the actual Ilha Grande. Because of its turquoise-blue water and the similarity to Port Antonio in Jamaica - the place where the film " The Blue Lagoon " was shot in 1980 - the lagoon is called "Lagoa Azul".

The Lagoa Azul is one of the most visited places on the Ilha Grande. With a wide variety of fish and corals indigenous to it, the lagoon is regularly approached by small ships where tourists and islanders snorkel and dive. The easiest way to get there is by water. Day trips for tourists start from the main town of Ilha Grande, Vila do Abraão . If you want to reach the lagoon on foot, take a path that leads from the bay of Saco do Céu to Freguesia de Santana.
