Lagoa da Caldeira ( Portuguese "Lake of the Kettle") is a lake on the Portuguese Azores island of Faial . The lake belongs to the territory of the municipality of Capelo in the district of Horta .
The lake is located in the only Caldeira of Faial at about 580 m altitude and has a strongly fluctuating water level. Depending on the amount of rain, it can be up to 10 hectares in size or it can fall dry and turn into a swamp. The current swamp lake is only a remnant of the previous lake, which previously covered the crater floor, but disappeared in 1958 in the course of the eruption of the Capelinhos volcano .
