The Laguna Boca Paila ( Spanish Laguna de Boca Paila ) is a lake in the state of Quintana Roo in Mexico . The name of the lake is derived from the name of its mouth, Boca Paila . The lake is part of a 50 km long body of water that is only separated from the Caribbean Sea by a narrow coastal strip, which is the only land connection between Tulum and Punta Allen at the southern end of this strip. The only bridge worth mentioning leads over the drain at Boca Paila and is popular with sport fishermen.
Part of the water is located in the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve .
