The Laguna Verde (Green Lagoon) is a lake in the Humahuaca Department of the Jujuy Province , on the border with the Iruya Department of the Salta Province in northwest Argentina . It is located in an uninhabited area at an altitude of 4,540 m, about 15 km north of the Abra del Cóndor mountain pass and 10 km northwest of the village of Iruya .
Due to the high proportion of copper-containing deposits, the water is colored green. Large quantities of vicuñas and guanacos live in the area around the lake .
From the village of Iruya , Laguna Verde can be reached on foot in around 5 hours. There is another lake about 1 km southwest of Laguna Verde.
