The Abra del Cóndor (Condor Pass) is a mountain pass and the area surrounding the pass on the Puna plateau in north-western Argentina . The pass is located in the province of Salta on the border with the province of Jujuy . The pass height is 3940 m.
In a south-westerly direction, Route 13 leads to Iturbe, 21 km away . In a north-easterly direction, the Route 133 leads on a steep, winding route of 19 km to Iruya 1200 m below .
At the Abra del Cóndor there is an apacheta , a pile of stones that functions as an altar on which the local Kolla Indians make offerings in honor of the deity Pachamama .
50 km north of the Abra del Condor is a mountain pass of the same name .
