Ragya monastery
The Ragya Monastery , Tibet. Ragya Gönpa ( Wylie : rva rgya dgon pa ) or Ragya Trashi Kündeling ( rwa rgya bkra shis kun bde gling ) is the largest and most important Gelugpa monastery in the otherwise of "red hat monasteries" (i.e. the orders of Nyingmapa , Kagyüpa and Sakyapa ) dominated Golog region.
It is located in Ragya, a large community in Make County (Maqên), Golog Governorate , Qinghai, China, about 350 km south of Xining on the north bank of the Yellow River called Ma Chu .
It was founded in 1769 by Arig Geshe ( a rig dge bshes ), alias Gyeltshen Öser ( rgyal mtshan 'od zer ; 1726–1803), and with formerly up to 800 monks and five faculties developed into one of the most important large monasteries in Tibet southern Amdo .
Under the 2nd Shingsa Rinpoche (shing bza '), Shingsa Pandita Lobsang Dargye Gyatsho ( shing bza' pandi ta blo bzang dar rgyas rgya mtsho ; 1759-1824), an edition of the Kanjur , the so-called Ragya edition , was printed here.
Ragya Monastery has been on the Qinghai Province Monuments List since 1988 . It has recently been restored.
