The Lake Mburo National Park ( English : Lake Mburo National Park ) is a protected area in the western part of Uganda and is 370 km² in size.
In 1933, a Controlled Hunting Area was set up , which in 1963 was elevated to a Game Reserve (German: Game Reserve). Finally, in 1983, the national park was established. Members of the Hema used the grassland for their cattle even after the establishment of the national park. This resulted in a political conflict with the Obote government, which also led to resettlement of resisting residents who received no compensation for the land loss they had suffered. This did not bring the establishment of the national park a favorable reputation.
In 1985, former residents occupied areas of the national park, destroyed infrastructure facilities, drove out the park rangers and killed animals. The national park territory was redefined in 1986 by the later NRM government, which now only comprised half of the original area.
