The Lake Canopus is a small lake in Wright Valley of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . It is 65 m above the south bank of Lake Vanda .
Participants in the eighth campaign, which ran from 1963 to 1964 as part of New Zealand's Victoria University's Antarctic Expeditions, named him after Canopus , the helmsman of Menelaus from Greek mythology.
