The Lake Magog is located in the Canadian Rocky Mountains in the Canadian province of British Columbia at an altitude of 2155  m .

The lake is located within Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park . Mount Magog ( 3095  m ) rises above the lake as a dark rock face and next to it the rock pyramid of Mount Assiniboine with 3618  m .

On the east side of the lake are the Assiniboine Lodge , the Naiset Huts as simple accommodations and a ranger station of the BC Headquarters. In the sparse forest north above the lake is the Lake Magog campsite, a campsite with cooking facilities and basic equipment.

The lake is located in a hollow that was carved out by the glacier in the last Ice Age . A special feature is that the lake has several inflows, but no visible outflows. Since the inflows fluctuate in amount, but the underground discharge is fairly constant, a more or less wide beach is formed depending on the inflow amount. On this beach there are colored, angular stones from all geological layers of the surrounding mountains.

The subalpine area with the Valley of the Rocks , Og Lake and Lake Magog is likely drained underground into the Simpson River to the north , which flows into the Kootenay River via the Vermilion River . This suggests extensive cave systems. Lake Magog shows water level changes up to 6 m.
