The Lake Quinault Lodge is a historic mountain hotel on the southeast shore of Lake Quinault in the Olympic National Forest in the State of Washington .
history
The first “Log Hotel” was built on Lake Quinault in the 1880s. In 1924 it was destroyed by fire. Following the example of the Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone National Park , construction began on the current main building as a rustic but comfortable mountain hotel. The building was richly decorated with carvings and other handicrafts. The lodge was opened in 1926. On October 1, 1937, US President Roosevelt visited the lodge during his information tour of the Olympic Peninsula . The topic of conversation over lunch was the creation of a national park, which nine months later became the Olympic National Park . In 1998 the lodge was inscribed on the National Register of Historic Places . Today's lodge consists of a total of six buildings. The two-storey, clapboard-clad main building is located on a hill overlooking the lake and contains thirty hotel rooms as well as the spacious lobby.
