Lake Rotoroa ( Māori for long lake ) is a lake in the Tasman region in the north of the South Island of New Zealand . The lake is located in a northern branch of the Nelson Lakes National Park .

It is fed in the south by the D'Urville and Sabine Rivers .

The lake is up to 145 m deep and surrounded by beech forest. In the small town of Rotoroa at the northern end of the lake, the lake flows into the Gowan River , which flows into the Buller River about 5 km north at Gonwan Bridge .

A hiking trail accompanies the northeast side of the lake. From the southern end of the lake, several tracks lead to St. Arnauld in the east, along the two tributaries to the south and west. Introduced trout live in the lake and can be fished for.
