The Lake Te Kōhua is a small lake in Otago on the South Island of New Zealand .

geography

The lake is located in the up to 2307  m high mountains, about 5 km southeast of the mountain range The Remarkables , which are adjacent to Lake Wakatipu to the east . The lake formed in an angular shape lies in a caldera at an altitude of around 1,930  meters and is around five 2,054  m to 2,307  m high peaks surrounding it. The lake has no regular drainage and is fed by the rainwater as well as the melting snow and ice towards spring. A runoff could occur partially on its northeast side, where the caldera opens. The lake measures around 1.56 km in circumference, around 500 m in an east-west direction and around 300 m in a north-south direction.

history

On December 11, 2013 was Land Information Minister Maurice Williamson publicly declare that by efforts of Māori strain of Ngāi Tahu Lake Lake Te Kōhua and the adjacent 2,307  m high summit Mount Tūwhakarōria be called.

geology

The Lake Te Kōhua belongs to a group of smaller lakes, such as the same size in about less than 2 km northwest of lying to Lake Hope during the Ice Age to the east and southeast of The Remarkables have formed in the high altitudes of the mountains.
