Slowly disappearing |
Lake Wabby is a greenish freshwater lake in the east of the Australian island of Fraser Island in the Great Sandy National Park . The lake is directly adjacent to the Hammerstone Sandblow sand dune , which is slowly moving towards the lake. In time, the lake will disappear under the dune that formed it. It is the deepest lake on the island.
Because Lake Wabby has a lower pH than most of the other lakes on the island, it is home to many species of fish. At least 13 species have been identified to date .
Lake Wabby has a high cultural value for the Butchulla , an Aboriginal tribe and was only allowed to be visited by men.
