The Lamar Building is a skyscraper in Augusta , Georgia . The historically important building is the highest in Augusta at 85 meters. After construction began in 1913, it had to be demolished in the meantime as a result of a major fire in 1916, and it was completed in 1918. In 1976 a penthouse was added, to which the Lamar Building owes its present height. On April 24, 1979, it was listed as a monument on the National Register of Historic Places . It is located in the city and financial center of Augusta.
