Lamellar ring

A lamellar ring is a machine element that secures the axial position of bolts in bores or of components, for example roller bearings , on a shaft or axis . It has a similar structure to a retaining ring and, like this, requires a groove in the bore or shaft, which is pierced into the shaft from the outside , turned into the bore from the inside, or milled .

Accordingly, there are inner laminar rings for bore assembly and outer laminar rings for shaft assembly. The difference is in the design. For assembly and disassembly does not require any snap ring pliers . Another advantage is the lower space requirement due to the lack of inward or outward facing ends. Depending on the type of load, there are single-wound or double-wound laminar rings.

Applications are the axial limitation, fixation and tensioning of components, but also - instead of piston rings - the sealing of used pistons in combustion engines and compressors.

Lamellar rings are preferably made from the materials 1.0605, 1.1221, 1.8159 or 1.4310, depending on the application, the adjacent material and temperature resistance.
